My passion for flowers stem from when I was a little girl. I grew up in a farming community, where there are a lot of meadows and hills filled with straw flowers that just blow with the wind on a typical afternoon. I remember making my way home from a long day at school and I just stared at the mums and baby’s breath, and it was absolutely breath taking every time. The sight of flowers blooming wildly is definitely a sight to behold. Now that I live in the city, I can only have small planters but I make sure that they are in bloom all year round. I have petunias and a couple of tulip bulbs that are constantly blooming. I thoroughly enjoy looking through my patio window, with these flowering plants lining the stones. It’s an absolute marvel. I would very much like to plant some more, but that would probably have to wait when I get a house.

My wife and I wanted a real greenhouse. For a few years, we had been using a small one that we had built from a kit, and although we liked it immensely, we wanted to expand to something larger. We felt as if we had gotten the hang of the practice, so we wanted to grow more plants and devote more of our time to the thing. We started looking into Gothic Greenhouses especially, for they offered their peculiar peaked roof. These roofs offered more rooms for headroom as well as more sidewall space, and we just liked the design–it reminded us of the churches we had visited on our honeymoon on the European continent. We found one online that we liked a lot, particularly because it came in a number of sizes, so we could make sure we found one that fit in our relatively small yard. We bought it and we love it!

If you have a lot of clay in your soil, as soon as your soil temperature goes above 70 or 75 degrees, your soil will expand. If there is no room for it to expand, you will just compress the existing soil and also compress the roots of the plants in your lawn. As a result, your grass may stop growing during the summer. The ideal of watergardening is to build a koi pond and plant it with lush submerged plants and many delicate water lilies. The reality is a bit tougher. You’d never guess what the biggest enemy of your plants would be, at least until you saw it yourself. Its the koi fish.
Koi are robust feeders, and they especially like aquatic plants. If you plant your expensive aquatics in the usual way, potted in mesh baskets with gravel covering the top of the compost-enriched dirt, your koi will delightedly start nibbling. And they will keep nibbling until the leaves are gone, and the stems are gone and nothing is growing above the gravel. Then they will pick up the gravel and spew it around and keep digging until they get to the roots.
The solution? Nothing really solves this problem, but there are workarounds. Some pond keepers have a separate shallower part of the pond that the koi can’t get into, and they plant there. Or they devise big sock-like structures of koi proof mesh so waterlilies can be protected from their roots up the stems, and then at the leaves and blooms. Nothing works perfectly, but determined gardeners eventually come to some kind of peace agreement with their determined koi.

Raised beds improve soil drainage and virtually eliminate problems of compacting because once the beds are created, they are never walked on. They also warm up faster because more surface area is exposed to the sun, allowing a head start on spring planting and extending the growing season well into fall. Raised beds also give more planting room because rows for walking aren’t necessary. And finally, They also save time and money because once created, weeding, watering, and fertilizing can be confined to the beds themselves, not the paths.
To build a raised bed, excavate the soil around the perimeter of the growing area to a depth of 6 to 8 inches below grade. As you dig, throw the soil into the area you want to be raised – the process of constructing the paths creates the raised beds.
The application rates for most granular fertilizer and store-bought products are ordinarily stated for one hundred square feet. I prefer to make my beds about four feet wide by 10 feet long. That way I can work the bed easily from either side, and I don’t waste time walking down the length of each bed just to get to the other side. I also keep the paths narrow – about a foot wide – because I’d rather devote more space to growing beds than paths. You may want them wider, especially if you want to wheel a garden cart between the paths. In my vegetable garden, I don’t frame my beds with anything. I merely mound the soil up to form the bed.

How frequent should a grower needs to water an orchid varies greatly with each specie and each condition. Generally, orchids need to be watered once a week. But, under different temperature, the watering schedule may have to be changed. During summer time, a plant will need more water and during winter time, it would need less. Observe the plant on how often it should be watered. It should not be soaked to avoid the orchids roots to rot.
Small sized-pots dry faster than large ones so this also must be taken into consideration. When an orchid is transferred into a bigger pot, it may need more frequent watering. A grower should not water at night since water may get in between leaves which may promote growth of bacteria. Water the plants from the top until water comes out from the drainage. Wipe the water on the leaves and in between them. The key to knowing when to water them is by observing them so it helps being an observant.

There is something about self-sufficiency that I find really, truly amazing. I suppose that it has something to do with the times in which I grew up. To me, food is something that you get at the grocery storesomething that you pick up at your own convenience. Also, food is readily available. I can have watermelon in July, or I can have it in November. Truly, I am used to some very high standards when it comes to food.
This, of course, is why I am always so amazed when I see people planting their own veg seedswhen I see people tending to their own foods and making sure that they grow properly. I mean, I am sure that I could do a few of these things for myself, but it would mark a big change in how I actually choose to live my life.
I appreciate their efforts, and I stand in awe of their resolve.

For many a cast iron Dutch oven is about as good as it gets if we want to cook out of doors. They are also perfect for one pot cooking in the home too. But it is definitely the best option for cooking on an open fire. We will find that we can simply put them direct on to the coals or we can hang them up over a fire.
We simply put in a meat and maybe vegetables and allow it to slow cool. We will find that within a very short period of time we will have been able to produce one of the best outdoor meals that we have ever had. There is no doubt that they are more than worth the money. The fact is that they will basically last forever. After we have served the meal we can add water and put the Dutch oven back on the heat, this will make it exceptionally easy to clean and we will be able to cook again the next day.
