A number people say that artificial Christmas trees just do not compare to the real trees. However, these artificial trees have come a very long way ever since they were first introduced. The first artificial Christmas tree had originated in Germany in an effort to reduce deforestation. It had been shaped with the help of metal wire and was decorated with feathers. The feathers had been dyed green to make them look more or less like pine needles. In fact it was quite a small tree which was meant to be kept on a table or a stand. Later on these were improved further. These versions used animal hair, that were also used to make brushes. Eventually they started using colored plastic fibres for the needles.
